Film, Edit

South-Karelia Museum, Finland

2022

DANCO – School for De-Colonising the Art of Dance was invited to create an exhibition room for “Musem of Prehistoric Attitutes” of Lappeenranta Museum, Finland. We used our material from our workshop Patterns of Masculinity in Lagos, Nigeria, and produced a new dance film starring Emmanuel Ndefo. In the film, Ndefo is continuing his research on masculinity through Igbo-ritual Adamma. Our exhibition room consisted of six photographs from our workshop, clothes and a mask from ADAMMA-ritual, and a dance film.

From the museum website:

The exhibition “Museum of Prehistoric Attitudes” in South Karelia Museum explores equality and outdated attitudes. It questions gender as a defining factor in the world and puts old-fashioned norms and attitudes on display. The exhibition is produced in cooperation with the Lappeenranta Museums and Plan International Finland.

The exhibition also explores gender equality internationally through Plan International’s photographic resources and a short film by DANCO – School for De-Colonising the Art of Dance, produced jointly by Plan and Villa Karo cultural centre.
